The holidays are here and that means a lot of events like concerts and parties! Winter makeup looks tend to be bolder with more dramatic eye makeup and/or a darker lip colour.
These evening looks are a lot of fun and can really define the mood of your outfit. The only downside is that sometimes makeup can be unnecessarily over-applied on the skin, which tends to look cakey instead of dewy.
I love the model's look that my friend Faye Smith, a makeup artist in Vancouver, did the other day (pictured below). This is an elegant and strong look which would stand out in any room, but it isn't overkill because the model's beautiful skin still has a natural and healthy glow to it. Along with using quality makeup products, Faye also added NH Elixir Luxury Face Oil to the mix, to give the model's skin an iridescent quality.
You can achieve this look yourself too for your next party!
First, make sure that you are well hydrated in general. Winter skin tends to be dryer due to the cold, and indoor heating systems unfortunately suck moisture out of the air--and your skin too. Many of us also have the tendency to forget to drink as much water as we normally would. This is NOT the time to skimp on water! Try to drink at least 2-3 litres of water on a daily basis to maintain the foundation of moisturized skin.
Before applying your evening makeup look, hydrate your skin with a moisturizer and allow it to soak in for a minute or two. Instead of using a foundation with maximum coverage, try using a lighter more translucent one. This will allow your natural beauty to shine through, and you will look less "painted" as a result.
You can even mix a small amount of NH Elixir Luxury Face Oil with your foundation before applying. This will help the product nurture your skin more, and provide you with more moisture, and an overall glow all night long.
After applying all of your makeup, you can highlight certain parts of your face with NH Elixir Luxury Face Oil to accentuate certain features. The best places to do this are on the cheek bones, cupid's bow (just above the lip), and the middle of the forehead.
If you feel like your makeup needs a pick-me-up at any time during your evening, you can actually apply some NH Elixir Luxury Face Oil on top of your foundation and powder to add some life back into your look! Just wash and dry your hands first, apply some product onto your hands, rub it together, and dab onto your face where you feel it is particularly dry, or just in the highlighting areas.
