Green Chocolate Banana Power Smoothie

Green Chocolate Banana Power Smoothie

I love this smoothie for breakfast when I'm on the go, as a post-work meal, or just because!  It is so smooth and tastes delicious, with the texture of a pudding (I prefer to eat it with a spoon).

Spinach is one of the world's healthiest foods. Not only is it rich in iron, it also contains vitamin K, A, B2, B6, E, C, B1, etc. Spinach also provides you with Magnesium, Calcium, Folate, Manganese, Copper, and Chlorophyll. The list goes on and on...spinach is truly a superfood that deserves to be included in as many meals as possible.

Bananas contain Potassium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Manganese, Fibre, Copper, and Biotin.  The high Potassium levels in Bananas promote cardiovascular health, and dramatically decrease risk of stroke. Bananas also support digestive health, and the natural fruit sugar found in Bananas provide you with an instant boost of energy.

Protein Powder: Choose a protein powder from your health food store that is as natural and organic as possible. I like plant based protein powders without extra fillers. Choose a powder with at least 15-20g of protein per serving. That will provide you with the nutrition you need to maintain your energy for hours. This is especially important if you are making this smoothie as a post-workout snack/meal.

1 organic banana

1 scoop of chocolate protein powder

1 handful of spinach

*optional: unsweetened almond milk and/or unsweetened shredded coconut

Put the organic banana in the freezer overnight.

Wash and chop a handful of spinach. Remove banana from freezer and rinse under water. If organic, leave the peel on the banana and chop into slices. First add the spinach to your blender. Add a minimal amount of water (just enough so that it will blend, while remaining thick). You can replace the water with almond milk if you prefer. It might take a couple of minutes for it to mix properly (especially if you are using a smaller bullet-type of blender). When all of the spinach is blended, add the scoop (or two) of protein powder with the banana slices on top. Blend until completely creamy. Pour into a glass and top with shredded coconut if you desire. the last drop!
